Cambodia prepares to host ASEAN sports leaders meeting

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, March 27, 2026: The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Royal Government of Cambodia held a meeting to discuss preparations for an upcoming gathering of senior sports leaders of the Association of South East Asian Nations.

 

The workshop reviewed important content in the build-up to the meeting of ASEAN sports ministers to be held in Siem Reap province in October 2026.

 

The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, and by HE Pon Sok, Director General of the Sports Ministry.

 

*Cambodia will also stage the 23rd ASEAN University Games in 2028, with students from 11 countries across the region competing in between 15 and 18 sports.

 

As part of its preparations, Cambodia will send a delegation to the 22nd ASEAN University Games in Malaysia, scheduled for December 10–19. The Kingdom is expected to participate in eight sporting disciplines.

 

Cambodia will also send performers to showcase its national culture to promote the “Kingdom of Wonder” ahead of its 2028 hosting responsibilities.
