Kuwait City, Kuwait, May 6, 2020: The Olympic Council of Asia has received 30,000 medical masks from the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee in the fight to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The OCA will distribute the masks to members of staff and also to the sports community in Kuwait.

Any remaining masks from the supply of 30,000 will be donated to the Ministry of Health for use by frontline medical staff treating patients and saving lives.

In a letter addressed to Mr. Chen Weiqiang, Vice Mayor of Hangzhou and Deputy Secretary General of HAGOC, Mr. Mao Genhong, Deputy Secretary General of HAGOC and Director of the HAGOC Executive Office, and Madame Zhou Shu, Director of the HAGOC Media and Promotions Department, OCA Director General Husain Al-Musallam thanks HAGOC for the “kind support and generosity” during these difficult times.

“Thank you for this wonderful gesture,” writes Mr. Al-Musallam.

“The donation of 30,000 masks signifies the unity and spirit between our two organisations and also between the people of China and Kuwait.

“We will make sure they are put to the best use in the fight to contain the spread of COVID-19 within the sports community in Kuwait and also within the medical services.

“I believe the official slogan of the Hangzhou Asian Games truly reflects our special bond and friendship: heart to heart @future.”

Mr. Al-Musallam said he hoped the OCA could visit Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province in eastern China, in the near future and resume their joint work and planning for the 19th Asian Games, which will take place from September 10-25, 2022.
