Baghdad, Iraq, March 18, 2026: The National Olympic Committee of Iraq will compete in three sports at the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China next month.

The three sports are athletics, jiu-jitsu and teqball.

The Iraq NOC revealed that athletes in the three sports are in intensive training for the Sanya Games which will be held from April 22 – 30.

Of special interest will be teqball, with the Iraqi Teqball Federation saying the Beach Games will offer “a real test to see how far the game of teqball has advanced at the continental level.”

Teqball will also be making its Asian Games debut at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan later this year, and the Sanya ABG will give all teams the chance to assess the strengths of their opponents.

The Iraqi Teqball Federation has provided a sand playground for the teqball athletes to train in and also arranged for a joint training camp with Romania. A couple of overseas training camps have been arranged, in Thailand and China.
