New Delhi, India, March 11, 2026: Olympic medallist Saina Nehwal, Indian badminton icon, has become a member of the Advisory Board of India’s International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN).
The world’s largest youth-run non-profit organisation announced Nehwal, a former world number one, as the newest member of the prestigious board on International Women’s Day - Sunday, March 8.
With this induction, Nehwal becomes only the second sportsperson, alongside legendary athlete and President of the Indian Olympic Association PT Usha, to join the Advisory Board.
The announcement was made at a special interaction organised by IIMUN at its newly inaugurated headquarters, where Nehwal addressed 75 school principals on the theme of "Women Empowerment: The Role of Educational Institutions and the Power of Sport in Nurturing Leadership”.
Nehwal, the London 2012 Olympic bronze medallist, spoke about the critical role schools play in shaping confidence, ambition and creating opportunities for young girls, emphasising that sport builds perseverance, emotional strength and decision-making attributes that define leadership across all spheres of life.
