Ahmedabad, India, March 9, 2026: Indian cricket captain Suryakumar Yadav set his sights on Olympic gold at Los Angeles 2028 soon after his team had won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8.
India crushed New Zealand by 96 runs in a one-sided final to win back-to-back T20 World Cup titles in front of a rapturous home crowd.
Speaking at the post-final press conference, Yadav described his team’s run as a “wonderful journey” and hoped it would continue by winning Olympic gold in 2028.
“Obviously, it has been a wonderful journey in the last one month. It has been very special,” Yadav noted. “Definitely the next goal is the Olympics.”
The Indian Olympic Association posted on its Instagram page: “Back to back World Cup T20 wins. Congratulations to our Men’s Cricket Team on successfully defending our World Cup title.”
