Sana’a, Yemen, March 9, 2026: The Yemen Olympic Committee celebrated International Women’s Day with national sports associations at the NOC headquarters on Sunday, March 8.
Addressing participants, including those online, the First Deputy Chairman of the NOC, Khaled Khalifi, congratulated all female sports leaders and national sports associations on International Women’s Day, and praised the contributions of Yemeni women in various sports.
NOC Secretary General Mohamed Al-Ahjri welcomed all female leaders and Yemeni sports associations, and hoped women’s sports will witness more development and prosperity. He wished all female athletes and coaches would achieve their goals and dreams.
On her part, NOC Board member Nawal Shafiq expressed her pride in participating in the celebrations, wishing that women’s sports will continue to grow in Yemen.
Another Board member, Nayla Nasr, pointed out that Yemeni women should have a bigger role in various fields and play a more significant part in leading Yemeni sports in the future.
Also attending the event were the Chair of the NOC’s Athletes Committee, Taha Muhaqry, Vice Chair Manal Al-Salawi and General Secretary Yasmin Al-Rimi, and a number of female athletes, coaches and officials.
The participants thanked the Yemen Olympic Committee for hosting the International Women’s Day event, and hoped that women’s sports would continue to receive more support in the future.
