Muscat to host men’s hockey qualifiers for Asian Games

Muscat, Oman, March 3, 2026: Nine teams will compete in the men’s hockey qualifying competition for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games to be held in Muscat from March 28 to April 5.

 

Asia Hockey announced last week the participating teams and pools for the qualifying competition for the 12-team men’s event at the 20th Asian Games.

 

There are six berths available for Aichi-Nagoya and they will join the top six men’s teams from the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games – defending gold medallists India, China, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan and Korea.

 

The Pool A qualifying event comprises hosts Oman, Hong Kong China, Thailand, Kazakhstan and Indonesia. 

 

Pool B will feature Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan.

 

Meanwhile, the qualifying competition for women will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia from April 20-30, 2026. 

 

Four teams will qualify for the 10-team women’s hockey competition at the 20th Asian Games.

 

China is the defending gold medallist in women’s hockey at the Asian Games. Also earning direct berths are India, Japan, Malaysia, Korea and Thailand.
