Thimphu, Bhutan, March 2, 2026: HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, inaugurated the FIFA Arena project in the capital Thimphu on Saturday, February 28.
FIFA Arena is a global initiative launched by football’s world governing body with an ambitious goal to build at least 1,000 mini pitches worldwide by 2031.
It marks a significant step forward in expanding access to quality football facilities for young people in Bhutan. The project is designed to provide children, particularly those with limited access to sports infrastructure, with safe, high quality and accessible spaces to play football.
The Bhutan Football Federation has successfully installed two mini pitches under the FIFA Arena project. The facilities are located at Loseling Middle Secondary School in Thimphu and Tendruk Central School in Samtse.
The inauguration of this project reflects Bhutan’s continued commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting football as a means of empowering communities.
