Astana, Kazakhstan, March 1, 2026: The leadership of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan and the Chinese Olympic Committee met on the sidelines of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics last month.

The Kazakhstan delegation was led by NOC President Gennadiy Golovkin and Secretary General Alimzhan Akayev. The Chinese delegation included COC President Gao Zhidan and Secretary General Wu Jian.

Both parties emphasised the high level of bilateral relations and noted the importance of sustainable cooperation within the Olympic Movement and with nations across the Asian region.

Among key topics discussed were joint training camps for women’s boxing, as well as men’s and women’s diving.

The Chinese side noted Kazakhstan’s notable success at the Winter Olympics, specifically the performance of Mikhail Shaidorov, who won Olympic gold in men’s figure skating.

The COC also extended its congratulations to Kazakhstan on Almaty hosting the 2029 Asian Winter Games – taking over from Harbin, China, which is seen as a significant sign of confidence from the Asian sports community and the Olympic Council of Asia.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining direct dialogue and implementing joint initiatives within the Olympic Movement. This includes the training of athletes and expanding practical cooperation between the specialised sports structures of both countries.
