SF&OC welcomes additional resources for sports development in Hong Kong

Hong Kong, China, February 25, 2026: The Financial Secretary of the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong, China delivered the 2026-27 Budget on Wednesday, February 25, and announced increased resources to promote sports development.

 

“The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China welcomes this initiative,” the SF&OC said in a statement.

 

The Budget sets out clear measures to allocate more resources for promoting sport in the community, supporting elite sports, maintaining Hong Kong’s role as a centre for major international sports events, enhancing professionalism in sports and developing sport as an industry.

 

One major initiative is to inject 1.2 billion HKD into the sports portion of the Arts and Sport Development Fund.

 

Dr. ‍Timothy Fok, President of SF&OC, said: “We are grateful for the Government’s steadfast support for sports development. The proposed measures to strengthen team sports training and improve the professional standards of coaches will help raise the performance level of teams.

 

“In addition, the Government’s support for hosting higher-level sports competitions in Hong Kong, and developing sport as an industry through the ‘M’ Mark System, will elevate Hong Kong’s international sporting status and create opportunities for the sports industry.”

 

Dr. Fok continued: “These policies will inject strong momentum into the future development of sport in Hong Kong. SF&OC will continue to work hand in hand with the sports sector to make good use of resources, support the implementation of relevant policies and measures, and help the Hong Kong sports community seize this opportunity to reach new heights.”
