Macau, China, April 28, 2020: The sports community in Macau, China will benefit from an impressive new Athlete Training and Development Centre.

The 12,000-sq-metre centre, which opened recently and is located next to the East Asian Games Dome, is already hosting athletes from wushu, karate, taekwondo, judo and dance sport.

With such modern facilities available to the athletes and coaches, Macau is looking to make its mark at the regional and continental levels, particularly in the international multi-sport events organsied by the Olympic Council of Asia.

The President of the Sports Bureau of the Macau Special Administrative Region Government, Pun Weng Kun, said: “This impressive new centre marks a major milestone in the development of Macau sports, providing renewed momentum for future development and many opportunities for our athletes to thrive.”

Mr Pun said the centre would provide a “strong foundation” for the athletes and described it as a “game-changing” development for Macau sport.

“In addition to larger training spaces and state-of-the-art equipment, the centre also provides holistic support systems so our athletes can cultivate their strengths, surpass goals and unleash their full potential in the international arena,” added Mr Pun.

“We hope that our athletes, coaches and sports technicians make the most of this invaluable resource and continue to promote the development of professional sports by continuously shining in competition.”

The training centre is divided into three parts: multi-function sports building with two gymnasiums, a five-storey training hall with a weight training centre and five-lane, 25m indoor swimming pool on the first floor and a nine-storey dormitory to accommodate over 300 people.

The dormitory, canteen and medical support will soon be integrated with the training centre progressively.
