Thimphu, Bhutan, February 19, 2026: His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck and the Bhutanese sporting community had the honour of welcoming Her Majesty the Gyalyum Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck to the Bhutan Olympic Committee headquarters last week.
Her Majesty was graciously accompanied by Her Royal Highness Ashi Sonam Dechan Wangchuck and His Eminence Vairochana Rinpochhe.
The visit followed the re-election of Prince Jigyel, the President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, as a Member of the International Olympic Committee at the 145th IOC Session in Milan, reaffirming Bhutan’s growing presence within the Olympic Movement.
In his address, Prince Jigyel expressed his gratitude to the BOC staff and National Sports Federations for their dedication to advancing sport in the Kingdom.
Her Majesty commended the collective efforts of the sporting community and conveyed her prayers for continued excellence, unity, and service to the nation through sport.
Prince Jigyel also serves as Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia, further strengthening Bhutan’s role in international sports governance.
