Milan, Italy, February 17, 2026: H.E. Abdulla Ali Al-Subousi, the United Arab Emirates Ambassador to the Republic of Italy, has praised the UAE National Olympic Committee and the Emirati leadership for the country’s historic participation at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.
The UAE Ambassador expressed gratitude and recognition for the good leadership of the country, led by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, for his continuous support of sport as an essential pillar in the vision of developing the country.
“The first-ever participation of the UAE in the Winter Olympic Games reflects our commitment to broadening our engagement across diverse sporting disciplines. Sport continues to contribute meaningfully to our national identity, youth development, and international presence,” Ambassador Abdulla noted.
Alpine skiers Alexander Astridge and Piera Hudson are representing the UAE in its debut appearance at the Winter Olympics.
The UAE Ambassador praised the UAE NOC for its effective leadership. “The committee provided organised training programmes, international competition experience and integrated preparation, which enabled our athletes to qualify and proudly raise the country flag during the opening ceremony in Cortina.”
He added: “I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to the leadership of the state, the National Olympic Committee and the Winter Sports Federation, and our athletes who have all contributed to this important national achievement.”
