Manama, Bahrain, February 16, 2026: The Bahrain Olympic Committee celebrated National Sports Day under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and BOC President, at Bahrain Bay on February 12.
The event saw widespread participation from national sports federations, public and private institutions, and a significant attendance from the general public.
A number of sports activities and programmes targeting all ages were conducted in an atmosphere that reflected the spirit of the community, and underscoring the prominent position sport has in the Kingdom of Bahrain as a way of life.
The BOC President Sheikh Khalid affirmed that National Sports Day embodied the national vision supporting the promotion of a culture of sports and physical activity.
He commended the decision of HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to allocate half a workday for government sector employees to engage in sports activities.
“Allocating half a workday for government sector employees to engage in sports activities underscores the wise leadership’s belief in the importance of sport as a fundamental pillar in building the health, physical and psychological well-being of Bahraini citizens, and reinforces our aspirations towards a more vibrant and productive society,” Sheikh Khalid noted.
“The broad official and public participation we witnessed reflects the growing awareness of the importance of sport as a way of life and confirms that Bahrain Sports Day has become a significant national event for strengthening social cohesion and promoting a culture of physical activity among all members of society,” Sheikh Khalid added.
