Kazakhstan NOC President Gennadiy Golovkin lauds Shaidorov for historic victory

Astana, Kazakhstan, February 15, 2026: Gennadiy Golovkin, President of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, extended his congratulations to Mikhail Shaidorov on his victory at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

 

 

Shaidorov, a 21-year-old from Almaty, delivered the performance of his life to claim Kazakhstan’s first Olympic gold in figure skating.

 

 

Leading the applause for this momentous feat was the head of the Kazakhstan NOC Golovkin who noted that the gold medal is a landmark event for all Kazakhstani sports, representing the culmination of years of hard work, resilience and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

 

 

“On behalf of the National Olympic Committee and myself personally, I would like to express my sincere congratulations to Mikhail Shaidorov on his historic achievement – winning the Olympic gold medal in figure skating,” Golovkin was quoted as saying on the Kazakhstan NOC website. 

 

 

“The victory is an extraordinary milestone for Kazakhstan figure skating and our nation’s sports heritage. After 32 years, our national anthem was once again resonated at the Winter Olympic Games as our flag was raised.

This victory rightfully serves as an inspiration for young athletes and stands a major landmark in the history of our country’s sports.
