Tehran, Iran, February 9, 2026: The 54th General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran was held on February 1, 2026, under the aegis of the Minister of Sports and Youth, Ahmad Donyamali, and NOC President Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa..

In a letter dated February 6 and addressed to OCA Director General Husain Al-Musallam, the Iran NOC Secretary General, Mahdi Alinejad, informed that following deliberations the General Assembly approved, by a majority vote, the postponement of the next election cycle of the NOC.

It was decided that there will be a four-month postponement of the next Elective General Assembly – to be held in early December 2026 or early January 2027.

This was due to the crowded NOC calendar commencing in September 2026 with participation in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, followed by the Dakar Youth Olympic Games in November and the Riyadh 2026 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in December.

According to the NOC, the postponement aims to ensure greater organisational stability, improve alignment with national and international sporting calendars and allow for more effective planning and management of the NOC’s electoral and executive processes.

The audit report and financial statements of the NOC was also presented at the General Assembly, which was attended by presidents and senior officials of National Sports Federations.

The performance report of the national teams at the Bahrain 2025 Asian Youth Games and the Islamic Solidarity Games Riyadh 2025 were also presented.
