Milan, Italy, February 6, 2026: Korea aims to win at least three gold medals in the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, which open on Friday evening.
Korea will have 71 athletes competing in six sports and has set out to bring home at least three gold medals, one more than its total from the previous Winter Games in Beijing in 2022, according to Yonhap News.
Figure skater Cha Jun-hwan and speed skater Park Ji-woo will serve as co-flagbearers for Korea in the opening ceremony at the San Siro Stadium.
"It's such a huge honour. I am very thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this," Cha told reporters after a practice session at Milano Ice Skating Arena on Thursday.
This will be Cha's third Olympics, but he said he was unable to attend the opening ceremonies at his first two Winter Games.
"I want to feed off the positive energy of the opening ceremony," Cha added.
