Thimphu, Bhutan, February 5, 2026: The Bhutan Olympic Committee has congratulated its President, HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, on being re-elected as a Member of the International Olympic Committee.

Prince Jigyel, 41, who is also an OCA Vice President, became an IOC Member in 2018 and his current term ends in 2026. He will now serve for another eight years.

The Bhutan Olympic Committee posted that Prince Jigyel’s re-election reaffirms Bhutan’s rare and distinguished presence at the highest level of global sports governance.

“IOC Members serve as independent stewards of the Olympic Movement, acting in the interest of Olympism rather than as a national delegate,” the BOC stated.

“His Royal Highness continues to actively contribute to IOC deliberations and strategic initiatives, including participation in the IOC President’s Working Group. His role as Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia further reflects his growing responsibilities and influence in regional and global sports leadership.

“His Royal Highness’s re-election highlights Bhutan’s continued commitment to the values of Olympism, good governance and the positive role of sport in fostering unity, integrity and sustainable development both nationally and internationally,” the BOC added.
