Dhaka, Bangladesh, February 3, 2026: Army Chief and President of the Bangladesh Olympic Association General Waqar-uz-Zaman participated in the inauguration ceremony on Sunday, February 1 of the country’s first Olympic Complex in Trishal, Mymensingh, 86 kilometres from the capital Dhaka.
General Waqar-uz-Zaman laid the foundation stone for the mega project to be built on a sprawling 173-acre site. The project is a joint initiative of the Bangladesh Olympic Association and the Bangladesh Army.
Addressing dignitaries at the inauguration ceremony, the BOA President said: “We have long dreamt of this Olympic Complex. While several sites were considered over the years, complications prevented progress. Finally, the location next to the Army Training School has been chosen to ensure that its construction and maintenance meet the highest standards under army supervision.”
Special guest, Youth and Sports Secretary Md. Mahbub-ul-Alam, said: “No sports facility of this magnitude has been built in this country since the 1990s. This will be a milestone for our future generations.”
The master plan for the project includes three indoor stadiums for football, hockey, tennis, athletics, residential areas for athletes, a media centre, parking, and shooting facilities. The complex will accommodate 33 sports disciplines.
