New Delhi, India, February 2, 2026: V Sreenivasan, husband of Indian Olympic Association President P T Usha, passed away at his residence near Payyoli last Friday. He was 63.
The Indian Olympic Association posted on X: “The IOA family is deeply saddened and shocked by the untimely passing away of our President Dr PT Usha’s husband Mr V Sreenivasan. We stand united with our President and her family in this moment of immense loss. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with Dr PT Usha.”
Sreenivasan collapsed at his home. Though he was rushed to a private hospital, he could not be saved, reported the Times of India.
After their marriage in 1991, Sreenivasan had been by Usha’s side supporting her track and field pursuits. He played a role in her winning the silver medal at the 1994 Hiroshima Asian Games.
Usha, who was away in Delhi for a Parliament session, had rushed home last Friday.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally spoke to Usha over the phone and expressed his condolences.
