OCA Director General Husain Al Musallam praises Tencent for its commitment to develop esports in Asia

Kuwait City, Kuwait, January 21, 2026: Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, Captain Husain Al Musallam, has highly commended Tencent for its outstanding commitment to the development of esports in Asia, a few days before the 46th OCA General Assembly in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

OCA and Tencent deepened collaboration ahead of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games by signing an agreement during the OCA’s 101st Executive Board Meeting held in the Bahraini capital Manama last October.

In the space of the last three months, this partnership has blossomed, prompting the OCA Director General to praise Tencent Esports for its exceptional capabilities and sustained contributions to advancing Asian esports.

“Our partnership with Tencent Esports has reached a new level with them being an official partner of the OCA. This represents not only a significant upgrade in our cooperation but also a key milestone for the development of esports in Asia,” Captain Husain noted.

Building on Tencent Esports’ experience from the Jakarta 2018 (demonstration sport) and Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games (medal sport), the two sides have deepened collaboration to support the further development of esports as an official Asian Games discipline.

“This cooperation is of far-reaching significance. It marks the transition of Asian esports from a phase of ‘event participation’ into a new era centred on ‘technology and system co-creation’,” Captain Husain stated.

“We look forward to deepening our collaboration to jointly drive the sustainable development of competition systems, technical standards, and the esports ecosystem over the next decade, establishing an exemplary ‘Asian model’, Captain Husain added.

Building on its technical applications and operational experience from the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, Tencent Esports will further enhance its capabilities through the development of the Tencent Esports Competition System (ECS).

Drawing on expertise accumulated across multiple top-tier events, the system is designed to deliver end-to-end, reliable technical support for future Asian Games, starting with Aichi-Nagoya later this year, ensuring competitions are conducted under consistent standards of fairness, stability and efficiency.

The OCA General Assembly will be held on Monday, January 26.
