Amman, Jordan, January 21, 2026: HRH Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein, President of the Jordanian Olympic Committee, inaugurated the ‘Sport for Peacebuilding in Syria: From Dialogue to Action’ conference in Amman, last week.

The conference was organised by Generations for Peace in partnership with the Olympic Council of Asia, UNICEF, the Olympic Refugee Foundation, and the Yusra Mardini Foundation.

It brought together more than 150 participants from international and regional organisations, Syrian civil society representatives, youth leaders, and NGOs.

The two-day event was aimed at exploring ways to utilise sports as a practical tool for promoting peace, building community resilience, and supporting social recovery in Syrian communities affected by the conflict.

The two-day event began with a keynote address given by Olympic champion Yusra Mardini, representing the Yusra Mardini Foundation. In her speech, she highlighted her personal experience and transformative role of sport in empowering youth and fostering hope in contexts of conflict and displacement.

Generations for Peace CEO Lama Al-Hattab stated that the conference was a response to the growing need for safe spaces that allow Syrian youth to express themselves, participate, and recover.

The conference included interactive sessions, workshops and presentations addressing various issues from trauma-recovery, confidence-building, enhancing youth participation, and the role of local community initiatives in supporting social cohesion.
