IPC President Parsons visits Bhutan

Thimphu, Bhutan, September 24, 2019: Andrew Parsons, President of the International Paralympic Committee, made a four-day official visit to Bhutan from September 15-18 during which he met top Olympic, Paralympic and Government officials of the Himalayan Kingdom.

Parsons met with His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuk, who is President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, a member of the OCA Executive Board and IOC member, and Her Royal Highness Princess Eeuphelma Choden Wangchuk, President of the Bhutan Paralympic Committee.

Parsons praised HRH Princess Eeuphelma for taking forward Paralympic sports in Bhutan in such a short time.

The Bhutan Paralympic Committee was founded in September 2017 with the vision to make sports inclusive and to inspire all Bhutanese living with impairments and provide them with opportunities to participate and excel in sports.

Earlier in February, during the General Assembly of the Asian Paralympic Committee in Dubai, Parsons had met Princess Eeuphelma and discussed ways in which the International Paralympic Committee could help in developing Paralympic sports in Bhutan.

Parsons also met with the Prime Minister of Bhutan, Dr. Lotay Tshering, during his visit.
