Iran NOC Athletes’ Commission elect leaders at first official meeting

Tehran, Iran, December 30, 2025: Olympians Ali Pakdaman and Milad Vaziri were elected as chair and vice-chair of the Athletes’ Commission of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

 

The first official meeting of the Iranian Athletes’ Commission was held on Saturday, December 27, in the presence of NOC President Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa and Secretary General Dr. Mahdi Alinejad alongside all elected Athletes’ Committee members.

 

During the meeting, members finalised the leadership structure for the next two years, with fencer Pakdaman, who competed in the men’s sabre event at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics, being elected uncontested as chairman.

 

The position for vice-chair was contested with Milad Vaziri, an archer who competed at the 2012 and 2020 Olympics, defeating Nahid Kiani, the first Iranian woman to win an Olympic silver medal in taekwondo at the Olympics – 2024 Games.

 

After the election, NOC President and Secretary General both addressed the gathering and underlined the strategic importance of the Athletes’ Commission within the Olympic governance framework.

 

The NOC hierarchy also confirmed their support to the activities of the Athletes’ Commission and its role in conveying athletes’ perspectives to the decision-making bodies.

 

Also attending the meeting was Soraya Aghaei in her capacity as IOC Athletes’ Commission Member.
