Malaysia NOC President Dr. Norza Zakaria unites Southeast Asian NOCs in support of OCA leadership

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, December 28, 2025: Dr. Norza Zakaria, President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia and OCA Vice President for Southeast Asia Zone, played an important role in bringing together the National Olympic Committees of the region to pledge their collective support for the leadership and programmes of the Olympic Council of Asia.

 

Dr. Zakaria, who recently assumed the presidency of the Southeast Asian Games Federation for the term 2025 – 2027, initiated the special meeting between the NOCs and OCA Director General Husain Al Musallam on December 19 at The Park Nine Hotel, Suvarnabhumi, in Bangkok, Thailand.

 

The special meeting aimed at fostering unity and strengthening regional cooperation under the OCA framework. It was attended by 10 of the 11 Southeast Asian NOCs – Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Timor-Leste, Thailand, and Vietnam.

 

Delegates from Cambodia and Indonesia joined the meeting online.

 

The OCA Director General expressed his utmost appreciation to all NOCs in Southeast Asia for their active participation in OCA multi-sports events in 2025, namely Harbin Asian Winter Games and the Bahrain Asian Youth Games.

 

Captain Husain also praised their involvement in a number of OCA programmes and activities such as the Asian Games Fun Runs, Asian Youth Camps for sports, regional forums, and a range of seminars aimed at strengthening and advancing the Olympic Movement in Asia.

 

The meeting was further honoured by the attendance of HE Ser Miang Ng, IOC Member from Singapore.

 

Other senior OCA officials present were Prof. Supitr Samahito, Executive Board Member, Abraham Tolentino, Chair of OCA Legal Committee, Dr. Park Joo Hee, Chair of OCA Entourage Committee, and Trky Mahmoud, official from the OCA Director General’s office.

 

Following the meeting, Dr. Zakaria hosted a dinner reception for all participants.
