Bangkok, Thailand, December 22, 2025: The Olympic Council of Asia successfully concluded a two-day Sports Arbitration Regional Seminar in Bangkok, Thailand on December 20-21.
The progressive initiative by the OCA benefited National Olympic Committees in East Asia and Southeast Asia.
A similar seminar was held for NOCs across West Asia, Central Asia and South Asia in Kuwait in October, 2025.
OCA Director General Husain Al Musallam made the keynote speech on the opening day of the seminar.
The seminar provided an in-depth overview of the Sport Arbitration definition, structure, procedures, and leading cases, while also addressing the latest developments in international sports law.
In addition, participants benefited from specialised sessions on Best Practises in Arbitration, highlighting the experiences of the several Arbitration Centres in the region.
On the opening day, key speakers included Dr. Abdullah Al Hayyan, member of the International Council of Arbitration for Sport who gave an overview of sport law and arbitration; Mrs. Yuri Yagi, Japanese Olympic Committee Vice President and Court of Arbitration for Sports Arbitrator and Executive Board Member who spoke on Sports Arbitration in Japan and at the CAS Ad Hoc Division; and Ms. Aysha Mutaywea, judge at Bahrain International Commercial Court and managing partner at Mutaywea Law who made a comparison between CAS and the ICC arbitration rules.
On the second day there were further talks given by sports lawyers Mrs. Ling Goh, on best practises in sport law & arbitration in Singapore, and the future of sports dispute resolution in Asia; Mrs. Gong Xiaoyan, who gave an introduction to China’s sports arbitration system; and Saverio Paolo Spera, who looked at a recent landmark case and the future of sports arbitration.
