Thai Queen leads hosts to a historic gold medal in sailing

Bangkok, Thailand, December 19, 2025: Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana led Thailand’s sailing team to a historic gold medal at the 33 SEA Games with the home team winning the new SSL 47 event on Thursday, December 18.

 

The Thai Queen was the navigator and strategist of the Thai national sailing team, and also assisted in steering the craft in the newly added keelboat event (SSL 47) at this year’s SEA Games in Bangkok.

 

Teams from Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia and Myanmar also participated in the event which was carried out over eight legs and a number of days.

 

The Thai team displayed unity and strategic brilliance to win the decisive eight and final race in 41 minutes and 31 seconds. Combined with the results from the previous legs, it was enough to give the hosts the gold medal.

 

The Thai Queen is an ardent sailor and is dedicated to promoting Thailand’s sailing sports both nationally and internationally. Winning the gold medal at the SEA Games is bound to inspire and motivate young Thai sailors, and advance the sport in the country.

 

The Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn officiated at the medal ceremony.
