Sri Lanka NOC briefs LA28 Olympic Solidarity Scholarship athletes

Colombo, Sri Lanka, December 16, 2025: The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka conducted a comprehensive briefing for Olympic Solidarity Scholarship holders for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games at the NOC headquarters in Colombo last week.

 

A total of seven Olympic Solidarity Scholarship athletes and their coaches attended the session. They were: Aruna Dharshana, Rumesh Tharanga, Lesandu Arthavidu, and Tharushi Abhisheka (all athletics), Ranithma Liyanage (badminton), Hiruki de Silva (swimming), and Nethmi Ahinsa (wrestling).

 

Viren Nettasinghe (badminton) who is currently overseas was represented by his coach.

 

The one-day session focused on educating and motivating athletes on the effective utilisation of the scholarship, as well as meeting quarterly reporting requirements.

 

The session was led by members of the Independent Selection Committee. The panel provided the athletes with detailed guidance on the scope, responsibilities, and expectations of the LA28 Olympic Solidarity Scholarship emphasising transparency, accountability, and performance-based progress.

 

Lal Wickrematunge, Sri Lanka NOC General Manager, delivered an inspiring address, urging scholarship holders to remain disciplined, committed, and focused on long-term performance development, while representing Sri Lanka with pride at the international level.

 

Niluka Karunaratne, Olympian and Chair of the Sri Lanka NOC Athletes’ Commission also addressed the athletes.
