Bangkok, Thailand, December 12, 2025: Thailand’s Puripol Boonson is the fastest man in Southeast Asia winning the men’s 100m with a scintillating run on the athletics track at the 2025 SEA Games.

The Thai sprinter fulfilled his dream of a home gold medal as he crossed the finish line in exactly 10.00 seconds at the Suphachalasai National Stadium in Bangkok.

Boonson also achieved a personal best in the heats, fulfilling his goal of a sub-10 second race with an impressive time of 9.94 seconds in the heats earlier on Thursday, December 11. He became the first Southeast Asian man to break the 10-second barrier.

“I’m very happy with myself for running under 10 seconds,” Boonson told Olympics.com in Thai. “I wasn’t sure at first whether I could do it. My goal is now to improve on my record time. I want to break my personal best again.”

Boonson, who won his fourth SEA Games gold medal, was overjoyed on crossing the finish line. Wrapping himself in a Thai national flag, he also presented a photo of the King and Queen of Thailand.

Former 100m junior champion Mohammed Lalu Zohri of Indonesia won the silver medal with a time of 10.25, with Malaysian 18-year-old Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee taking bronze in 10.26.

A total of 10 countries are participating in the December 9-20 SEA Games, after Cambodia pulled out.
