Bangkok, Thailand, December 8, 2025: The 33rd SEA Games returns to the location of the very first regional Games in 1959, as the Thai capital of Bangkok plays host together with the Chonburi region.
Two years on from the previous edition in Cambodia, 11 Southeast Asian nations will compete at the 2025 Games from December 9-20: hosts Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, Vietnam, Lao, Brunei Darussalam, and Timor-Leste.
A total of 13,657 athletes will compete across 50 sports, ranging from Olympic disciplines to traditional regional sports. Among them are Olympic champions, weightlifters Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo of the Philippines and Indonesia’s Rizki Juniansyah.
Also competing are 2021 world badminton men’s singles champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore, bidding for his first SEA Games gold, as is women's tennis star Alex Eala from the Philippines.
The head of the sports delegations from the 11 National Olympic Committees attended the Chef de Mission Meeting at The Grand Fourwings Convention Hotel, Bangkok, on Sunday. December 7.
The meeting was aimed at briefing delegation heads on operational procedures, as well as guidelines and schedules for the opening ceremony which will be held on Tuesday, December 9, at the 51,000-seater Rajamangala National Stadium.
Events are being held across Bangkok and the Chonburi regions. Songkhla was due to host 10 sports events, until severe flooding in southern Thailand forced organisers to relocate all those events to the capital.
