Colombo, Sri Lanka, December 4, 2025: The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka has launched an emergency relief donation drive to support families affected by Cyclone Ditwah which has left more than 800 persons dead in the island-nation.
The Sri Lanka NOC has requested fellow Sri Lankans to donate items badly needed by displaced persons throughout the island. It is estimated that more than 1.6 million people were hit by torrential floods and landslides, and have been forced out of their homes.
The death toll is expected to exceed 1,000 with hundreds still missing.
“Items needed include drinking water, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, towels, bed sheets, blankets, detergents, sanitary napkins and clean clothes,” the NOC posted on its website.
The NOC headquarters, Olympic House in Colombo, is the designated drop-off point for people contributing such items.
“All donations will be handed over to the Sri Lanka Air Force for distribution to affected families. Every contribution matters. Stay safe Sri Lanka,” the NOC added.
Cyclone Ditwah – the worst cyclonic storm to hit Sri Lanka in more than 60 years - left a trail of death and devastation across the island over the weekend.
