Deputy Governor of Hainan Province says to combine a holiday with 2026 Asian Beach Games

Sanya, China, December 2, 2025: The Deputy Governor of Hainan Province, Xie Jing, told delegates at the 1st Chefs de Mission Seminar for the 6th Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026 that the city was looking forward to welcoming athletes and officials for both the competition as well as for a holiday.

“Ours might not be the largest sporting event (on the OCA calendar) next year, but Sanya is certainly a city that can combine competitions with vacation. So, we look forward to meeting everyone again in Sanya next year and sincerely invite all of you to bring your families to Sanya, to Hainan for a holiday,” said Xie, who is also the Deputy President of the Sanya Asian Beach Games Organising Committee.

Over 3,700 athletes from all 45 National Olympic Committees across Asia have registered to participate in the April 22-30, 2026 event. The Games will feature 14 sports, 15 disciplines, and 63 events.

Sanya is a resort city on the southern end of China’s Hainan Island, renowned for its tropical climate, and is a popular tourist destination.

“We firmly believe that Hainan will live up to the expectations of all parties. We have successfully completed all preparatory work, and encourage more young people to participate in a distinctive and high-level 6th Asian Beach Games,” Xie noted.

“In 2025, we hosted 99 sports events, including 10 international/world sports events and 54 national sports events. The successful hosting of these events has provided us with valuable experience for organising the Asian Beach Games.

“Hosting the Asian Beach Games is a major initiative for Hainan to comprehensively deepen its opening-up. It will use the Games as a bridge and as a window to collectively showcase Hainan’s construction achievements and its unique charm to Asia and the world, while also building a platform for Asia to work together, join hands and create a better life through interaction,” Xie added.

Last year, Hainan Province received over 97 million tourists.
