Tehran, Iran, November 5, 2025: Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Mahdi Alinejad, has said medallists at the 3rd Asian Youth Games would continue to receive financial support from the NOC.

Addressing Iranian media after the conclusion of the 57th Executive Board Meeting of the Iran NOC, Secretary General Alinejad said the meeting had reviewed the performance of the athletes at last month’s Bahrain AYG where the team achieved its best-ever result – rising from 20th place in the previous edition to fourth overall with 76 medals, including 22 golds.

“Nearly 70 percent of our athletes won medals across 19 sports. The diversity of medals was on par with China and well ahead of countries above or below us in rankings,” Dr. Alinejad noted.

Iran fielded a squad of 239 athletes in 22 sports at the October 22-31, AYG.

Dr. Alinejad also highlighted the strong performance from female athletes, who claimed 48 percent of Ian’s total medals. He described these results as “historic and inspiring”, calling the youth delegation true “Ambassadors of Hope”.

“The Iranian NOC will place the medallists of the Bahrain Asian Youth Games under its umbrella of support, both financially and spiritually, to help guide their sporting future,” Dr. Alinejad said.

He said the NOC would use the IOC scholarship model for the young athletes.

The Iranian NOC said long-term planning and belief in the nation’s young generation was paving the way for further success at upcoming events including the Dakar Youth Olympic Games and the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, both in 2026, and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
