Manama, Bahrain, October 26, 2025: Azaan Maqbool and Ayesha Waqas will have their names etched in history after Pakistan’s triathlon team made their first-ever appearance in a multi-sports international competition.
It was a landmark moment for Pakistan as their athletes proudly participated in the boys' and girls' individual events in triathlon - swim. bike and run - at the 3rd AYG in Bahrain.
It marked a significant milestone for Pakistan’s growing presence in multi-sports events across Asia, and symbolised the country’s commitment to nurturing young athletes and expanding its representation in endurance sports.
The icing on the cake is that Azaan and Ayesha are proud products of the OCA World Triathlon/Asian Triathlon Youth Development camp in Kampar, Malaysia in June last year.
This seven-day camp featured athletes and coaches from 25 Asian National Olympic Committees for training – Azaan and Ayesha were there from Pakistan, and their presence in Bahrain is evidence that they are progressing through the system.
Ayesha secured a commendable 22nd position in the girls competition, an encouraging result for Pakistan’s first-ever entry into the high-pressure world of junior triathlon in Asia. Azaan was unfortunately disqualified, his inexperience of competing at this level coming through.
The participation of both athletes was possible due to the backing and encouragement of Pakistan Olympic Association President Arif Saeed and Secretary General Khalid Mahmood, and highlights the country’s emerging talent in endurance sports.
