Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, April 21, 2020: Kazakhstan mogul skier Yulia Galysheva has been signed on as a Red Bull athlete.
The bronze medallist at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games, and double gold medallist at the 2011 Asian Winter Games in Nur-Sultan (formerly Astana) and Almaty, expressed her surprise last week when she became a member of the worldwide winged family of athletes.
“A long time ago I sent an application to become a Red Bull athlete. It was a year before the Olympics in Sochi, but I did not get any feedback then. And, after so many years, a representative of the company contacted my coach Elena Kruglykhina. After that everything spiraled up and within a year-and-a-half we signed this agreement,” revealed Galysheva.
Galysheva, 27, jumped back into the limelight last year when she won a gold medal in moguls at the 2019 World Championships to become the first Kazakhstan skier to achieve this honour.
“To become an athlete in this programme, you need to match it. And I am very glad to become this athlete and join the family of winged athletes all over the world,” Galysheva added.
Galysheva is the second freestyle mogul skier to become a Red Bull athlete joining American Heather McPhie who was enrolled in 2012.
“I was the first to congratulate Yulia,” said coach Kruglykhina. “To be an athlete in this programme is very prestigious; the company’s team has the strongest and most famous athletes in the world. This result is logical for Yulia and it is a huge achievement for our team. We hope that someone else from our team will receive the same honour in the near future.”
Red Bull, which holds the title of being the most popular energy drink in the world, has a highly recognisable tagline “Red Bull gives you wiiings”. The company’s vast international marketing strategy is based heavily in the extreme sports industry.
