Nagoya Mayor reveals Asian Games centrepiece to be ready by early 2026

Nagoya, Japan, October 7, 2025: The centrepiece of the 20th Asian Games - the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium – will be ready early next year, Games organisers revealed on Tuesday, October 7.

 

Addressing delegates at the 1st World Broadcasters Meeting for the 20thAsian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, the Mayor of Nagoya City, Ichiro Hirosawa, who is also the Acting Director General of AINAGOC, said work was still ongoing at the Athletic Stadium.

 

“The main venue is in the final stages of construction and is scheduled for completion in spring next year,” Mayor Hirosawa, revealed.

 

The Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium will be the venue for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, as well as host the blue-riband athletic events during the September 19-October 4 event.

 

“Preparations for the Games are entering a critical stage, but we will be ready to host a successful event,” assured Mayor Hirosawa.

 

The Acting Director General of AINAGOC who called on broadcasters from across Asia for their “support” to make the Games a success, also urged them to take some time off their work and to go around Nagoya.

 

“Aichi Nagoya is at the centre of Japan and boasts a rich history and a vibrant culture. I hope you will take this opportunity to see what makes this region special,” Hirosawa added.
