Nagoya, Japan, September 24, 2025: North Korea is expected to send nearly 300 athletes in 20 sports for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan next September.
Song Su Il, an Attache for the National Olympic Committee of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, attending the 1st Chef de Mission confirmed that North Korea will once again take centre-stage at the Aichi-Nagoya Games from September 19 - October 4, 2026.
“I currently reside in Japan and serve as an Attache for the DPRK NOC. While I need to hear the official comments from NOC officials back home, we are currently planning to send a delegation of nearly 300 athletes competing in over 20 sports,” Song told the Olympic Council of Asia.
Song is one of 43 Chefs de Mission attending the 1st Chef de Mission Meeting for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. The four-day meeting got underway on Tuesday, September 23.
Song added: “We participate in every Asian Games, so we will definitely participate in the 20th Asian Games as well, aiming to achieve good results.”
At the last Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, North Korea won 39 medals, including 11 gold medals.
