Colombo, Sri Lanka, September 22, 2025: The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, through its Gender Equity Committee, successfully hosted a workshop titled ‘Balanced Voices, Better News’ at the NOC Headquarters in Colombo, last Wednesday, September 17.
The workshop, conducted under the auspices of the Olympic Council of Asia, was about raising media awareness and advancing gender equity and inclusion in media content.
The initiative brought together around 60 participants from the local media and undergraduate community to explore gender equity, inclusive reporting, and ethical practices in sports journalism.
Ms. Niloo Jayatilake, NOC Vice President and Chairperson of the Gender Equity Committee, and OCA Executive Board Member, got the workshop underway when she gave an introduction to Gender Equity where she emphasised the important role journalists played as they controlled the narrative of the story.
Also among others present at the workshop were Lal Wickrematunge, General Manager of the Sri Lanka NOC, Rifdy Fahmy, NOC Secretary General, and Ms. Caryll Tozer, NOC Compliance Committee Chairperson, and Niluka Karunaratne, Chair of the NOC Athletes’ Commission.
