Hong Kong, China, September 18, 2025: The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China have welcomed the initiatives announced in the Chief Executive’s 2025 Policy Address on Wednesday, September 17, to further support sports development in the city.
In his 2025 Policy Address, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu proposed a series of initiatives to further support the sports development in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), and to develop sports as an industry and promote Hong Kong as a centre for major international sports events.
Timothy Fok, SF&OC President, said the NOC supported the measures to promote sport for all and maintain Hong Kong as a centre for mega events, for the development of the host city economy in the sports industry.
“The General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees will be held in Hong Kong in December 2026. SF&OC is advancing preparations to leverage the synergy between conferences, sports, culture and tourism, reinforcing Hong Kong's key role in connecting the world through international sports events,” Fok noted.
SF&OC also welcomes the initiatives put forward by the HKSAR Government to review the positioning of the Hong Kong Stadium, and to attract more international and Asian sports organisations to set up offices in Hong Kong with enhanced and comprehensive supporting facilities.
“SF&OC will continue to work closely with the National Sports Associations (NSAs) to actively promote Hong Kong's unique strengths, with the goal of bringing more international and regional sports events, and encouraging relevant sports organizations to establish regional office or headquarter in the city, further driving Hong Kong's development as an international sports hub and strengthening the city's international voice and influence,” Fok said.
The Policy Address also indicated the importance of enhanced corporate governance of NSAs. SF&OC will continue to provide NSAs with professional guidance and practical support in relevant areas.
Fok said: On the basis of the Code of Governance, we will work closely with NSAs to assist them in implementing relevant measures to strengthen corporate governance standards and professionalism, further enhancing the credibility of the sports sector.”
SF&OC is also pleased to see the Policy Address's emphasis on nurturing talents. It added it would maintain close cooperation with the HKSAR Government and stakeholders to boost the development of sport for all, showcasing the vibrancy and diversity of Hong Kong across all fronts.
