Malaysia NOC congratulates Wushu Federation for winning historic five golds at World Championships

Kuala Lumpur, September 9, 2025: The Olympic Council of Malaysia extended its heartiest congratulations to the Wushu Federation of Malaysia (WFM) for its outstanding achievements at the 17th World Wushu Championships in Brasilia, Brazil from September 1-7.

 

The eight-team Malaysian athletic contingent – four men and four women – delivered the country’s best-ever performance at the World Wushu Championships by winning eight medals – five golds, one silver and two bronze.

 

This historic feat surpassed Malaysia’s previous best haul of four gold medals at both the 2005 and 2013 Championships.

 

The five gold medals were won by: Si Shin Peng (a gold medal each in the Men’s Jianshu and Men’s Qiangshu events); Tan Cheong Min (Women’s Nangun event); Lee Jia Rong (Women’s Daoshu event); and Tan Cheong Min, Lee Jia Rong and Pang Pui Yee (Women’s Duilian event).

 

The President of Olympic Council of Malaysia, Tan Sri Dato Mohamed Norza Zakaria, and Vice President of OCA, said: “On behalf of the Olympic family of Malaysia, we extend our heartiest congratulations to the Wushu Federation of Malaysia for their historic five gold medals achievement at the World Wushu Championships.

 

“We also wish to acknowledge and congratulate Mahaguru Dato Dr. Chong Kim Fatt, President of Wushu Federation of Malaysia, for his exemplary leadership and unwavering dedication to driving the growth and development of Wushu in Malaysia since taking over the presidency of WFM in 2018.”

 

Wushu has been re-classified as a sporting activity by the Ministry of Education in Malaysia since 2024.
