Colombo, Sri Lanka, September 6, 2025: Suresh Subramaniam, the President of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, says that Sri Lanka is deeply honoured that OCA Director General Husain Al Musallam will be present at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Fun Run in Colombo on Monday, September 8.
A busy schedule has prevented the OCA Director General – he is also President of World Aquatics – from participating in any of the seven previous legs of the ‘Asian Games for All’ promotional campaign run jointly by the OCA and the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC) this year.
Al Musallam will be participating in the Sri Lanka event, however, much to the delight of the Sri Lanka NOC President who has also arranged for the OCA Director General to meet with Sri Lanka Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya during the visit.
“We are deeply honoured that Captain Husain will be coming to Sri Lanka. It means a lot to us,” said Subramanaim.
The Sri Lanka NOC has been recently embroiled in controversy with both the OCA and the IOC holding back funding until internal issues involving personnel were sorted out.
“I’m happy to say that everything is back on track again. We had a few corrupt officials, and I’m happy to say they have all been thrown out or have resigned,” Subramaniam revealed.
Now in a bid to show their support for both the OCA and the Asian Games, the NOCSL will hold the Fun Run as well as the Asian Youth Reporter project whereby one lucky participant will be selected to join the OCA media team at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games from September 19 to October 4, 2026.
The Sri Lanka Fun Run will be held on a beach in Mount Lavinia, just outside the capital Colombo. It will also include a kite-flying celebration, cultural dancing and a kabaddi demonstration.
It will be the eighth Fun Run held to promote and raise awareness of the Aichi-Nagoya Games following events in Bhutan, Tajikistan, Brunei, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Lebanon and Kazakhstan.
