Anti-doping takes centre-stage on second day of OCA/OS Athletes Forum

Astana, Kazakhstan, September 3, 2025: Anti-doping took centre-stage on the second day of the OCA/OS Athletes Forum in Astana on Wednesday, September 3.

 

Four major strategic objectives in the future were spelled out by the OCA to delegates at the Forum. They are: (a) Ensure compliance with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code; (b) Enhance Anti-Doping Awareness; (c) Strengthen Testing and Results Management; (d) Foster Collaboration and Partnerships. 

 

The OCA’s Anti-Doping Department and WADA presented the session moderated by Husein Alireza, a member of the OCA Athletes Committee.

 

Alireza said an ideal world as envisaged by the OCA would be a doping-free environment in Asia where fair play, ethical conduct and the health of athletes are paramount, inspiring trust and promoting the true spirit of sport.

 

Delegates heard that safeguarding the integrity of sport in Asia and to protect clean athletes by implementing a comprehensive, effective and ethical anti-doping programme in accordance with the WADA Code was also a priority.

 

The session was presented by the OCA Doping Control Team led by Venera Abdullah and Gobinathan Nair, WADA Athlete Commission members Gary Ahrens, Emma Terho and Zhang Hong, as well as WADA’s Athletes Anti-Doping Ombudsman Anna Thorstenson.
