Manama, Bahrain, April 16, 2020: The Bahrain Olympic Committee has encouraged the people of Bahrain to protect themselves and those around them during the coronavirus pandemic but to remain active to help bring back the golden era for Bahrain sport.
To support its athletes, sports fans and the general public, the Bahrain NOC asked some of their gold medal winners to add a hashtag to their photos saying “Protect yourself to bring back the golden era”.
Bahrain celebrated a golden year in 2018 thanks to the number of successes their athletes achieved across international competitions.
Success has continued with the Bahrain men's handball team qualifying for the first time for the Olympics; the football team who participated in the 2019 Military Games in China and won gold; the military athletics team winning many medals at the same Games which all resulted in Bahrain being ranked eighth from the 120 countries which took part at the Military Games.
At the 6th GCC Women’s Sports Games which was hosted by Kuwait last October, Bahrain won 36 gold medals to finish top of the medal standings.
