Singapore, August 4, 2025: World Aquatics President Husain Al Musallam paid tribute to the athletes, praised the Singapore 2025 event organisers and honoured the thrilling performances in his closing address at the World Aquatics Championships on Sunday, August 3.

“Singapore has proven time and again to be an outstanding host for World Aquatics events, and the World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025 was no exception,” he said.

“As the first edition of the Championships to be held in Southeast Asia, this event marked a significant milestone for our sport.

“From the professionalism of the organisers to the passion of the fans and the seamless operations, Singapore delivered a world-class experience for athletes, teams and spectators alike.

“Singapore continues to set a high standard for excellence, and we are proud to have such a strong and trusted partner in this important region of the world.”

The world championships ran from July 11 to August 3 and featured all six World Aquatics disciplines: swimming, open water, diving, high diving, water polo and artistic swimming.

At the close of play on Sunday, August 3, China led the way with 15 gold medals, along with 12 silver and 10 bronze for 37 total medals.

Australia finished second with 13 gold, seven silver and eight bronze for 28 total medals, ahead of the United States in third place with 10 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze for 32 total medals.

Japan (1-4-3) finished joint 12th, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (0-1-1) came in equal 23rd and Kyrgyzstan (0-0-1) and Korea Republic (0-0-1) came in joint 27th.

China made a strong start to the world championships with four gold medals in artistic swimming, including all three team events, and their diving dominance kept them ahead of the swimming powers with nine gold medals.

China’s only two swimming gold came from Hangzhou Asian Games MVP Qin Haiyang in the men’s 100m and 200m breaststroke.

More than 2,400 athletes representing 203 countries and regions and the World Aquatics Refugee Team competed across six sports and 77 medal events over 24 days at the World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025 – held for the first time in Southeast Asia.

Reflecting the global reach of the event, more than 125 broadcast cameras captured over 300 hours of live coverage across three venues. World Aquatics also produced 20 daily highlight shows and a 100-minute championship recap for the 48 Rights Holding Broadcasters of these Championships.

An additional 350 accredited press and photographers captured the iconic Championships moments in still image and print, helping maintain aquatics’ standing as one of the most covered Olympic sports – both during Olympic Games-time and in between.
