Dubai, United Arab Emirates, July 31, 2025: Asia Rugby has appointed five regional advisors to the President of Asia Rugby, Qais Al Dhalai.
The regional advisors are: Rabie Al Masri from Palestine (West Asia), Amir Amri from Malaysia (Southeast Asia), Nurlan Balbarakov from Kazakhstan (Central Asia), Donald Shaw from Macau, China (East Asia) and Nalin de Silva from Sri Lanka (South Asia).
This significant development is part of the organisation's strategic effort to deepen engagement with its member unions and enhance the implementation of rugby development initiatives across Asia’s five zones.
Asia Rugby President Qais Al Dhalai said: “This is a defining step in our effort to localise our governance model while remaining united under the Asia Rugby umbrella. These advisors bring deep insight, trusted relationships and a passion for our game.
“The introduction of these roles aligns with Asia Rugby’s upcoming 2025-2028 strategic plan and is anticipated to significantly strengthen regional communication and strategic coordination, and the delivery of high-impact rugby initiative across the continent. I am confident they will strengthen our presence and response in each region,” he added.
The newly appointed regional advisors will serve as a strategic liaison between the Asia Rugby President and national unions, supporting regional growth, promoting development programmes and advancing cross-border competitions.
