Phnom Penh, Cambodia, July 29, 2025: The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia has postponed the 10th Angkor Empire Marathon due to be held at Angkor Wat on Sunday, August 3.
The NOCC made the announcement in a communique to all national and international runners dated July 27 and said it was due to the border tension with Thailand.
The statement reads: “To all national and international runners: The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia announces the immediate postponement of the 10th Angkor Empire Marathon, originally scheduled for 3 August, 2025 at Angkor Wat.
“The difficult decision is due to escalating armed conflict and heightened tensions along the border. The situation has tragically resulted in casualties and the displacement of civilians to safe areas, including Siem Reap.
“The safety of participants, staff and the local community is of our paramount concern. The event will be rescheduled for a later date once circumstances improve.
“A further announcement with the new date will be made when possible.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and deeply appreciate your understanding during this challenging time.”
