Tehran, Iran, July 28, 2025: Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa, the President of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met with senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Iranian Ambassadors at the NOC Headquarters on Saturday, July 26.

A brainstorming session was held in order to push for the increased use of sports in the field of foreign policy, and how Iranian Ambassadors overseas could utilise such measures to advance the country’s public diplomacy.

The NOC President began by thanking the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Iranian embassies in various countries for their support of national teams sent to international sports events.

He said: “Sport plays a significant role in increasing interactions and communications between countries, and National Olympic Committees have an important role in this regard because, at international events like the Olympics and Asian Games, we witness senior officials of those countries at opening ceremonies.

“Apart from increasing the morale of athletes, this increases friendship between countries. It is appropriate for embassies to pay close attention to using these opportunities. We are also ready for any cooperation in this field,” he added.

It was decided to increase current communication between the Iran NOC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as Iranian embassies in various countries.

The meeting also decided that Memorandums of Understanding signed between the Iran NOC and other NOCs would be provided to ambassadors to strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries and define joint plans.
