Sarawak, Malaysia, July 27, 2025: Dr. Norza Zakaria, President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, welcomed Dr. Choue Chung Won, President of World Taekwondo, at the Opening Ceremony of the 2025 Asian Junior, Cadet and Para Championships.
Dr. Norza made a special trip to Kuching, Sarawak on Saturday, July 26, to witness the start of the prestigious event which is being held at the Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya until August 1.
The Opening Ceremony was held under the auspices of the Hon. Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu, Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, who was representing the Prime Minister of Sarawak, the Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The OCM President said: “On behalf of the Olympic Family in Malaysia, I extend our warmest welcome to Dr. Choue Chung Won, President of World Taekwondo, on his visit to Malaysia, especially to the culturally rich state of Sarawak.
“We deeply appreciate his presence and unwavering support for the development of taekwondo, which continues to grow as one of the most dynamic Olympic sports in Malaysia,” Dr. Norza added.
Dr. Norza also extended his heartiest congratulations to Mr. Kim Sang Jin on his election as the new President of the Asian Taekwondo Union during the ATU General Assembly held in Kuching on Friday, July 25.
“I would also like to personally commend the Hon. Azizul Annuar Adenan, Vice President of NOC Malaysia and President of Taekwondo Malaysia, for his exceptional leadership in bringing the Asian Taekwondo Championships back to Malaysia soil, an achievement last accomplished 33 years ago in 1992,” Dr. Zakaria concluded.
