Singapore, July 23, 2025: China collected their third gold medal in artistic swimming at the World Aquatics Championships Singapore 2025 by winning the team technical title on the evening of Tuesday, July 22.
This success followed earlier gold medals for Xu Huiyan in the women’s solo technical and in the team free event.
China claimed gold in the team technical event with a total of 307.8001 points, 7.1818 points ahead of Neutral Athletes B with 300.6183.
Spain took bronze with 294.8575, edging out Japan, who finished fourth with 282.4134 points.
This victory improved China’s medal record in the 22nd World Aquatics Championships to 3-3-0, second in the early rankings behind Germany (4-0-0). Japan (1-1-1) are sixth.
It was a special day for 19-year-old Xu Huiyan, who took silver in the women’s solo free in the morning and team gold at night.
China’s coach, Zhang Xiaohuan, pointed out that Xu went from earning a single bronze in Doha 2024 to capturing three golds and a silver in Singapore in just 15 months.
“She is only 19 and still has a long road ahead of her. We’ll take that journey one step at a time. She’s already achieved a dream for us. She’s an excellent athlete who takes initiative without us coaches having to worry about her,” the coach told World Aquatics.
“She’ll initiate music selection, the choreography, the artistic impression… all of that. I’m very glad we’ve found another excellent swimmer to lead the Chinese team.”
The World Aquatics Championships Singapore 2025 are being held from July 11 to August 3 with all six disciplines: swimming, open water, water polo, artistic swimming, diving and high diving.
