NOC Cambodia Secretary General targets medal upgrade for SEA Games

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, July 20, 2025: The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia continued its preparations for the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand this December with a meeting of national sports federations.

Hosted by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport on Friday, July 18, the meeting brought together representatives from 37 national federations set to take part in the December 9-20 regional showpiece in Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla.

The main themes of the meeting were to clarify the selection process, preparation and registration.

“While the selection policy is based on results obtained from previous SEA Games, it also focuses on athletes with the possibility of winning medals in the upcoming event. The Ministry encourages all athletes to continue their training efforts,” Olympic Cambodia reported.

The Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, H.E. Vath Chamroeun, said: “The 37 federations that have athletes participating in the SEA Games Thailand 2025 will be fully prepared.

“Now they must wait to hear further instructions from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport regarding other situations and advice from the Royal Government if any problems may arise.”

Vath, who is also Secretary General of NOC Cambodia, said the administrative process was running smoothly, in particular the registration of athletes and officials, and added that continued communication was the key to a smooth and successful participation.

He said that the Kingdom’s elite athletes were expected to win medals at the SEA Games, and urged athletes who had won bronze to target silver and athletes who had won silver to target gold in the 33rd SEA Games.
